2009-10 Future City challenge

The 2009-10 Future City challenge to America's middle school students is to design affordable housing to be used under emergency situations, which meets LEED standards.

Themed Providing an Affordable Living Space for People Who Have Lost Their Home Due to a Disaster or Financial Emergency, this year's Future City competition will attract more than 33,000 students from 1100 middle schools across the country. Participating students will be asked to design a model of their city using SimCity 4 Deluxe software, and then build a physical model of the city using recycled materials.

Bill Sutton of Wohlsen Construction, a Silver Organization member of GBACPA, is chairing the central PA regional activities this year. He is looking for mentors who are interested in advising nearby middle school teams. Time commitment is perhaps a couple of hours every two weeks during the fall and early winter. If you are interested in mentoring at a nearby school, contact Bill at wsutton@wohlsen.com.
